A Mode of Being is a two part multi-media installation that explores self-identity through a confluence of forms. I use the form of the face as an entryway for personal experience. In part I, I’ve taken pieces of gauze fabric and imprinted them with the likeness of the human face, each one a metaphor for an experience lived. In this installation, the position of each imprint depends on another. This formation constructs one entity as it expands in height and volume. In part II, a larger, imprinted piece of fabric is pinned wide and loosely to the wall. I’ve layered the moving image over the imprint to examine their relationship through the exposure of time. The elements in each installation; video, fabric, and space, are assembled in relationships where one is formed or transformed by another. Each work is a symbol for how our experiences evolve and shape our individual identity.        view single-channel here: A Mode of Being-Part II
